En 1999, Paulina Ramírez, de tan sólo trece años, fue violada y quedó embarazada. Con el apoyo de su familia, acudió a la clínica de su localidad para interrumpir la gestación, pero ni su corta edad ni las circunstancias violentas en las que se dio su embarazo le garantizaron ese derecho. Los médicos que la atendieron argumentaron objeción de conciencia, empecinados en defender sus creencias religiosas, y se negaron a practicar el aborto, dejando a Paulina y a su familia en una encrucijada vital.

Llueve en la taza reúne más de treinta poemas del gran escritor danés Henrik Nordbrandt publicados entre 1969 y 2007. Como señala Juan Marqués en el prólogo a esta edición: «Si hablamos de intimidad, ficción y talento, entramos ya de lleno en territorio de Henrik Nordbrandt, cuya estatura poética es tan inmensa como discreta: es un talento que no atropella, un talento que llega muy alto sin dejar de hacer sonreír. Uno se siente bien mientras lee a Nordbrandt, se tiene la sensación de estar siendo invitado a participar de un discurso civilizador y pacífico, de una poesía que resulta amable incluso cuando quiere ser dura, de unas palabras justas».

Twelve-year-old Bird Gardner lives a quiet existence with his loving but broken father, a former linguist who now shelves books in a university library. His mother Margaret, a Chinese American poet, left the family when he was nine years old without a trace. Bird knows to not ask too many questions, stand out too much, or stray too far. For a decade, his family's life has been governed by laws written to preserve “American culture” in the wake of years of economic instability and violence. To keep the peace and restore prosperity, the authorities are now allowed to relocate children of dissidents, especially those of Asian origin, and libraries have been forced to remove books seen as unpatriotic.   Bird has grown up disavowing his mother and her poems; he doesn’t know her work or what happened to her, and he knows he shouldn’t wonder. But when he receives a mysterious letter containing only a cryptic drawing, he is pulled into a quest to find her. His journey will take him back to the many folktales she poured into his head as a child, through the ranks of an underground network of librarians, into the lives of the children who have been taken, and finally to New York City, where a new act of defiance may be the beginning of much-needed change.

Fernando de Herrera fue de los primeros escritores españoles en celebrar formalmente la batalla de Lepanto. La inmediatez y el impacto público del acontecimiento, así como la ausencia de textos castellanos que lo hubieran abordado con desempeño suficiente, fueron las causas que el poeta esgrimió para justificar la escritura de la obra. Herrera intervino aquí y allá a lo largo del libro para dar cuenta de su quehacer como historiador, pero también hizo las veces de hombre de letras, de modo que esta obra se convirtió en referencia oficial para la monarquía hispánica. Los autores que en los años sucesivos se ocuparon de la batalla acudieron reiteradamente al discurso construido por Herrera, ya fuera como fuente de información o como modelo literario.

Ludvik Jahn, joven estudiante universitario y activo miembro del Partido Comunista checo, envía a una compañera de clase una postal en la que se burla del optimismo ideológico imperante. Lo denuncian y es expulsado de la universidad y del Partido, y al caer en desgracia se abre ante él un infierno. Atrapado entre dos amores, el de Lucie, tierno y desesperado, y el de Helena, apasionado y cínico, Ludvik vivirá un cúmulo de situaciones a cual más grotesca. De hecho, con el paso del tiempo, su vida se convertirá en una enorme broma pesada: ya no podrá culpar al destino, porque ya no puede sino culparse a sí mismo.
